Five Day Road Biking Tour

08 – 12 February 2019

Day 1: Gansbaai – Arniston (94.6 km)

An early morning pick up and 2-hour shuttle takes us through Hermanus and on to the start of our journey just outside Gansbaai. By 09h30 we should be on our bikes and ride the quiet road to Elim until just before Bredasdorp. Here we turn back towards the coast and head for the quaint little fishing village of Aniston, where we spend the night on the beachfront at a special little gem set right on the water – the Aniston Hotel.

Day 2: Arniston – Montagu (123 km)

Leaving the coast we head in-land through Bredasdorp and over the N2 at Stormsvlei. From here we ride up the stunning Stormvleipoort past Bonnievale and Ashton to our base for the next two nights, encapsulated by incredible orange fold mountains, the picturesque town of Montagu, famous for its natural hot springs.

Day 3: Montagu – Montagu (97 km)

Today is an out and back ride through the exceptional Koo Valley with a couple of tough climbs on the Rooihoogte Pass that are almost too beautiful to feel. At the top we take in the views and turn around to enjoy the pass and the valley from a new perspective, rolling back to our accommodation in Montagu.

Day 4: Montagu – Swellendam (112 km)

Leaving Montagu behind we ride the famous Route 62 to Barrydale, where we grab a coffee or famous milkshake at Diesel & Crème, before heading over the historical Tradouw Pass. You will need to take a moment to enjoy your surroundings, as this is a truly spectacular stretch. The road has been carved out of the side of the mountain and follows the course of the steep Tradouw River Gorge. After the pass, we ride through the quaint hamlet of Suurbraak onto the N2 for a short stretch to our final overnight stop in Swellendam.

Day 5: Swellendam – Stormsvlei (96.2 km)

Our final day of riding takes us out of Swellendam to Ashton, where we swing around Bonnievale via the Red Bridge route. We head off down the Stormvleipoort and end with a lovely lunch at Stormsvlei Farmstall before shuttling back 2 hours to Cape Town.
