Day 1: Cape Town Stadium – Rheebokskloof (100km / 789m)

Meet in the morning at Cape Town Stadium and cycle from here through the city and along the bike path to Blouberg Strand. Staying along the coast we then head towards Melkbos and from here, inland towards Philadelphia and on to Windmuel, where we make a turn to Rheebokskloof Wine Estate. Here we end our riding and start our dining! Enjoy great food and wine, then shuttle to our overnight accommodation at the spectacularly situated Val Du Charron Hotel & Wine Estate.

Day 2: Wellington – Wellington (115km / 1601m)

Heading out of Wellington & through Paarl towards the Du Toitskloof Pass, we ride over the old pass, taking in the stunning views across Paarl rock and the wine lands. Here we head into the incredible Slanghoek Valley with its imposing, dramatic mountains and pristine vineyards. At the end of this winding valley, off to left, we will meet the start of the iconic Bain’s Kloof Pass. The toil over Bain’s will be made well worthwhile by the spectacular scenery.

Once over the ‘Real Top’ (there are a few falsies), we roll downhill towards a light lunch at The Stone Kitchen at Dunstone Boutique Winery. We will likely linger awhile over their small, but lovingly created a selection of in-house wines. From there we load up & transfer a few 100m down the road back to Val Du Charron.

Day 3: Wellington – Franschhoek (89km / 871m)

We start the day riding around the front of Paarl Rock. We cross under the N1, then wind our way towards Stellenbosch, heading up and over the Helshoogte pass and taking in the breath-taking majesty of the Greater Cape Wine Lands en route to Franschhoek, where we’ll spend the night cradled by the Franschhoek Mountains.

Day 4: Franschhoek – Kleinmond (87km / 1197m)

Riding out of Franschhoek we are immediately faced with a sharp wakeup call in the form of the taxing Franschhoek Pass, offering an incredible vantage point to spy out the wonders of the valley below, while working up a proper sweat. Over the top of the pass, we get a fast, fun downhill, with winding switchbacks, which bring us to the edge of the Theewaterskloof dam to check the water levels. Riding just shy of Villiersdorp we head in the direction of Kleinmond. We’ll be on the N2 for a short fast downhill stretch before turning off and making our way to our overnight at the 5 star Arabella Hotel & Golf Estate.

Day 5: Kleinmond – Somerset West (75km / 651m)

Riding out of Arabella we turn left onto Clarence drive riding through the quaint seaside towns of Kleinmond, Betty’s Bay and past Pringle Bay until we reach Rooiels, from here we will be riding right on the edge of the dramatic coastline with its soaring mountains and picturesque sea views. We’ll have to keep our eyes out for the Humpback and Southern Right whales that famously take up residence here for part of the year. After we reach Gordon’s Bay we ride through Strand and over the highway to lunch at Vergelegen winery in Somerset West. After lunch, we transfer back to the start point at the Cape Town Stadium (via the Airport if you need to catch a flight home).
