Prima Vera Road Bike Tour

06 – 10 November 2023

Day 1 – Wellington to Tulbagh – Total km:62

We meet in the morning at the CT stadium and shuttle to Wellington, where
we disembark at The Old Tannery and you can grab a coffee and/or a quick
snack before we start our ride. We begin with an easy warm-up to loosen the
legs and get us to the base of Baine’s Kloof Pass. This is an absolute classic
and now made even more iconic by the plush new surface, which feels like
riding on satin – a far cry from the previous bumpy surface! Once down the
other side, we make for Tulbagh, via Wolseley and it’s plain sailing all the way
to lunch. We settle into and spend the next 2 nights at the Tulbagh Boutique
Hotel www.tulbaghhotel.co.za

Day 2 – Tulbagh to Tulbagh – Total km:99.7

We cycle back towards Wolseley, but branch off beforehand and head up Mitchell’s
Pass to Ceres, then on through Prince Alfred’s Hamlet and up The Mother of the day,
in the form of Guido Pass. At the top, we turn around and cruise back – a long
reward for the challenging first 50kms.

Day 3 – Tulbagh to Nuy – Total km:99.7

Heading back through Wolesley, this time we branch off to the spectacular
Slanghoek Valley, riding amidst vineyards, ringed all around by majestic mountains.
Alongside Rotary Drive, Chapman’s Peak, Baine’s Kloof, it ranks up there with the
best of the road rides in The Cape. We spend the night at Leipzig Country House,
with dinner in the old cellar. www.leipzig.co.za

Day 4 – Nuy to Paarl – Total km:115.4

Such is the iconic status of Slanghoek and Baine’s Kloof, that they both warrant
riding both ways. Enough said. When we reach the bottom of Baine’s at 100kms, it’s
an easy final 15kms to LaBorie, where we enjoy lunch under the trees at Cucina
Giovanni – their on site Italian restaurant, with dinner at Stoep, overlooking the
vineyards. We sleep in luxury villas with the backdrop of Paarl Mountain and ringed
around with vineyards. www.laborieestate.co.za

Day5 – Paarl to philadelphia – Total km:73.8

There is a fair amount of up & down today, as we head North to Malmesbury, where
we swing back South after 40kms and head downhill to our final destination at
Philadelphia. Here we enjoy a final lunch together at a hidden gem called Pepper
Tree, to round out our Prima Vera experience, before heading back to the city.
