Religion. Politics. Economy.

Traditions. Hopes. The Future.

We begin in the Bo-Kaap with a drive through the Malay Quarter and a visit to the District Six Museum, then on to the Cape Flats where we go to Langa, Nyanga, Gugulethu, Khayelitsha & Crossroads, including a visit to a local shebeen for a taste of sorghum beer, the meat market, the men’s hostels, a local creche, a herbalist and a craft centre.

This is an interactive tour and you will have the opportunity to speak to the local residents and possibly even be invited into their homes.

The Tourism Community Development Trust

Daytrippers believes strongly in supporting local communities and is a founder member of the Tourism Community Development Trust. The TCD Trust believes that tourism and hospitality stakeholders can play an important role in bringing about real change in our society.

The Masikhule home creche was one of the projects that lead to the formation of the trust. The original creche, while filled with happy, energetic children, consisted of no more than corrugated iron panels patched with cardboard providing little protection from Cape Town’s weather.

We also did extensive renovations at Baphumelele Educare Centre and built a respite care centre for HIV infected children. Our next project was a community centre with library, IT facilities, playground & greening project, built at Blomvlei Primary in Hanover Park. Then, we made a BMX pump track for the children of Ocean View and are currently supporting the Steenberg Scouts & Overberg Boxing Club with transport and other supplies to enable them to continue with the important job of keeping our vulnerable youth off the streets and out of trouble.
Ou most recent project is a Bicycle Club in Hangberg, Hout Bay. More details to some soon…
